We may never know exactly why AT&T suspended online sales of the iPhone to residents of New York last night, but it doesn’t matter anymore — the site’s been updated and online sales are back… online. In other news, previously spiking sales of pants in the New York area have suddenly flatlined.

The suddenly-booming e-book market means things are starting to heat up for Taiwan-based Prime View International — the company has formally completed its acquisition of E Ink and plans to increase display production up to fourfold next year, and it’s licensing daylight-viewable LCD tech to LG for somewhere in the neighborhood of $30m. Whether that means we’ll be seeing new devices based on E Ink and next-gen LCD screens or just more sales of existing devices remains to be seen, but we’re obviously hoping for new gear — good thing CES is right around the corner.

If there’s even a faint need for a recharging solution, there’s a decent shot that Sanyo will have an Eneloop device to fit the situation. Take the newly announced music booster, for instance, which is designed to sit alongside your Tube Screamer, TU-2 Chromatic Tuner and RV600 Reverb Machine in order to keep the juice flowin’ even if a breaker trips mid-solo. Truthfully, the device could be used to energize pretty much anything that taps into a 9V power source, and if you’re concerned over noise interference, Sanyo assures us that you shouldn’t be. The unit — which goes on sale in March 2010 — can be fully regenerated in around 3.5 hours, and depending on the drain of the device(s) it’s powering, can keep things going for anywhere between 2 and 50 hours. Rock on, as they say.

Oh, Brando — how we do love thee. Be it random accessories we don’t need at all or legitimate peripherals that make our lives all that much easier, you’re always there — steadfastly waiting for us to fall in love over and over again. Mushiness aside, the outfit’s new USB 3.0-to-SATA adapter is indeed one of those remarkably useful devices, enabling any old SATA hard drive to be accessed externally at USB 3.0 speeds. Essentially, this is the pocket-friendly version of Sharkoon’s latest SATA QuickPort, but rather than forcing you to carry around a dock, this simple dongle travels easy and plugs directly into the port-laden side of your spare HDD. Granted, you’ll need a USB 3.0-enabled PC or expansion card in order to take advantage of the additional speed, but for $48, this looks to be an excellent excuse to get that dusty, unused drive of yours back into service.

Considering the present date, it’s no longer a mystery that Fermi won’t be seeing the glaring lights of store shelves this year, but now DigiTimes reports that the delay might be even longer than feared. Sources from within board manufacturers have been informed by NVIDIA that the launch of the 40nm GPU will be pushed back to March 2010. Though NVIDIA’s flagship DirectX 11 card has yet to get out of the starting blocks, ATI — already the proud papa of a litter of DX 11 parts — is said to be preparing a renewed onslaught on the mainstream market with two new releases slated for late January or early February. The HD 5670 (Redwood) and HD 5450 (Cedar) will slot in alongside the unannounced HD 5570 and HD 5350 to flesh out the lower and middle portions of ATI’s Evergreen refresh. So that’s one whole family of DirectX 11 parts from ATI, and one long wait from NVIDIA.

The slow steady drip of details from the yet to be announced Nexus One continues today with a pair of accessories for the HTC / Google mashup. Above we’ve got a wireframe of the portrait-mode Desktop Dock to be known as model CR B410. What’s unusual here is the inclusion of Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR in the dock when the Nexus One is already Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR capable. After all, we’ve heard that the handset includes a docking connector at its base so what additional functionality would the second Bluetooth radio provide? That mystery aside, the FCC test report also shows a configuration where the dock is tethered via an AV-jack to a DVD player to help pull your multimedia off the slate and into the living room. We’ve also grabbed a shot of the Nexus One navigating inside a car with the help of a dashboard clip mount — check it after the break along side another FCC pic.

It would seem somebody over at Archos HQ was sipping a little too much of the Chardonnay over the holidays, as the company’s latest firmware update for the 5-inch Internet Tablet has suffered something of a false start. Intended to bring the onboard Android up to the civilized ways of version 1.6 and to fix a few outstanding bugs, the update has been yanked due to the above “last-minute major issue.” Mind you, when the non-toxic version does hit, you should still be wary — it appears the latest firmware disables the hack that allowed users to re-install some Google apps missing from the default software on the device. Ah well, a shambling but active updating regimen is better than none at all.

Took some time off for the holidays, did you? Well, things haven’t changed much since you’ve been gone. The world is still afraid of terrorists and Apple’s still rumored to be working on a tablet. Regarding the latter, two rumors have coalesced this morning from component suppliers. First, Taiwan’s Economic Daily is reporting via the Wall Street Journal that Cheng Uei Precision has landed “connector” orders for a “new flat-panel Apple Tablet PC” expected to begin shipping in Q3. Then DigiTimes piles on with its claims that Innolux (not WinTek) will be the initial supplier of 10-inch glass “touch panels” for Apple’s new tablet. DigiTimes then muddles things by claiming that the tablet will begin mass shipments (presumably to consumers) in March or April based on its analysis of shipping schedules from Apple’s upstream component suppliers. One thing’s for sure: if Apple does ever announce an iSlate or whatever they decide to call it, you won’t be using it during the last hour of your flight into the US.
