It took us a tick to get our Zune HD loaded up with those new 3D games that were released this morning, but we thought you might want to check out a quick hands-on. That Tegra chip is no joke — the graphics in PGR: Ferrari Edition are easily on par with the PSP and quite possible better, with intricate textures, high-quality reflections, and smooth framerates. The other games aren’t nearly as intense, but they’re just as smooth. Best of all? They’re free — although you will have to look at a Zune ad while they load. Not the worst tradeoff in the world, but we’d love to see what paid app developers could do if Microsoft would open this beast up. Check the video after the break.

We’re onto you, Wally World. Granted, you already confessed that you’d be dishing out a deal a week until sometime in the future, but hey, we’ll feign surprise without thinking twice. Next week’s bargain is a good one for those in the market for one of RIM’s handsets, as Walmart shoppers will be given a $100 gift card (to Walmart, obviously) if they purchase practically any BlackBerry phone on a 2-year contract from AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile or Verizon Wireless. Finding connections on the road can be tough, but like a digital Sherpa ZyXEL‘s MWR222 will drag you straight to that bounteous broadband then sit by quietly while you take all the credit. It can act as a wired router, connecting to your DSL or cable line and beaming out 802.11g/b/n wireless, but also offers integrated 3G/4G support, meaning just about wherever and whenever you turn this on you should find a connection. It’ll even keep track of your monthly wireless plan quota and help you avoid expensive charges. An integrated battery means completely wireless operation and a rugged design means it won’t complain if you throw it in the bottom of your laptop bag when it ships sometime in Q1 of next year. That said, at $299 you probably won’t want to be too rough with it.

When Nokia talks about the future it’s generally a good idea to pay attention. After all, even with diminishing market share, a split Maemo and Symbian smartphone strategy, and less than stellar financials, the company remains the world’s leading supplier of handsets with a proven ability to innovate. So take notice when Nokia’s head of corporate strategy, Heikki Norta, describes what life will be like in 2015 in a video littered with high-tech devices driven by finger-based UIs. Of course, five years is generally only enough time for the nascent technologies we see today to mature enough for mass market acceptance — in other words, readers of Engadget won’t find anything mind-blowing in a presentation laced with liberal doses of augmented reality, pervasive connectivity, dual-display clamshells, and as always: micro projectors and laser keyboards. Beyond hardware and software, Nokia sees itself at the heart of a global network aggregating data from hundreds of millions of intelligent devices for an unprecedented level of knowledge sharing that enables services such as highly localized traffic reports and weather trends. Fun stuff and certainly worth a few minutes to ponder on your own. Still, it’s difficult to get too excited by the vision from a company that was not only totally caught off guard by consumer trends at the margin-rich (read: money making) end of its devices portfolio, but also so slow to respond in any meaningful way.

We’re not really sure whether to consider this patronizing or genuinely useful. Former Blue Peter presenter Valerie Singleton, who is herself at an advanced age now, has partnered with Wessex Computers to create a custom Linux desktop targeted at easing the elderly into the use of a computer. Dubbed SimplicITy (the Brits do love their puns), it features only six chunky buttons that lead to a web or file browser, chat, email and profile apps, and awesomely enough, video tutorials from Valerie herself. Once you get your web-legs under you and feel confident enough to handle more complexity, you can disable the SimplicITy desktop and use a more conventional Linux distro. A Blu-ray “upgrade kit” for Apple’s revamped Mac mini… sounds like the ultimate for home theater buffs right? After all, such a device holds the promise of adding Blu-ray playback to a relatively powerful, off-the-shelf micro computer starting at $599 that’ll run any of the amazing media center apps available for either Windows 7 (with some extra legwork) or OS X. Not so fast bub, remember, OS X still doesn’t support native playback of Blu-ray discs pressed by Hollywood’s media fairies. As such, Blu-ray films purchased on disc can only be played by booting into Windows — under OS X you are limited to reading and writing data assuming you already have software like Adobe’s Premiere Pro CS3 with Encore or Roxio’s Toast with Blu-ray plug-in. Unfortunately, AMEX Digital is purposely unclear on this point by suggesting that the kit will simply “play Hollywood Blu-ray Disc movies on a properly configured PC or MAC.” For the extra $199 required to take the BD-UG1 home, we’d suggest a native PC solution, cheapo standalone Blu-ray player or PS3 and avoid these headaches altogether.
